Here's the thing about hickory hardwood - it's one of the toughest, most character-rich species you can have underfoot. But over time, even hickory takes a beating. The finish wears thin, the grain starts looking dull, and what was once a standout floor just blends into the background. That's exactly what we were working with on this Pepper Wood home.

The floors here are bevel-edge hickory, which adds a layer of complexity to the restoration process. Those beveled edges - the subtle grooves between each board - require extra care during sanding. You can't just run a drum sander across them and call it done. We work those edges properly so the final finish looks intentional and clean, not rushed.

We did a full restoration on this one. That means sanding the surface down to bare, fresh wood, working through multiple grits to get it smooth and even, then applying finish to bring that natural hickory grain back to life. The warm golden tones and bold wood character you see now? That's what was hiding under years of wear.

A lot of homeowners assume old or worn hardwood means it's time to replace. It usually isn't. Good hardwood like this - especially a species as durable as hickory - has multiple lives in it. Hardwood floor restoration and sanding is almost always the smarter move, both for your home's look and for your budget. You keep the real wood, you keep the character, and you end up with a floor that looks better than ever.

This is what we love doing. Taking a floor that's lost its shine and bringing it all the way back. Every Pepper Wood home deserves floors that match the quality of everything else in the space - and this one definitely delivers now.
